May 10, 2002 – Commemorative Dinner
Political, business, civic and healthcare leaders, including U.S. Health & Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson gathered at the new hospital to kick-off the Grand Opening Events.
June 1, 2002 – Annual Medical Staff Dinner
Cook County Board President John H. Stroger, Jr. was presented the first doctor coat for the new hospital. More than 300 people attended.
August 20, 2002 – Interfaith Gathering
More than 200 ministers of various faiths and denominations gathered for breakfast and a preview tour of the new hospital.
September 28, 2002 – The Last Rounds
Approximately 500 doctors who had trained at Cook County Hospital walked through “The Old Lady on Harrison Street” one last time, recalling their memories, then toured the new hospital.
October 4, 2002 – Perinatal Network Luncheon
Representatives from our Perinatal Network Partners toured the maternal and infant services unit of the new hospital.

December 8, 2002 – Public Open House
More than 1,500 persons toured the new hospital.

December 11, 2002 – Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Distinguished political, community, business and healthcare leaders officially cut the ribbon on the new hospital. Several hundred people attended the festivities.
December 12, 2002 – JOHN H. STROGER, JR. HOSPITAL OF COOK COUNTY OPENS
